Palmares:                              The story of this top-notch engine is strongly related to the story of a top-notch pilot: Thomas Kemenater.

He came from Meran, a small scenic village on the Italian Alps. At some point in his life, he replaced the incredible speeds of skiing in the Dolomites with the much faster (and prize-winning) speeds of car racing.

In 2002 and 2003 Kemenater won 3 trophies in the FERRARI CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIPS: the Shell cup in the Italian Championship and the Shell Cup and the Pirelli Trophy in the World Championship.

The end of a hero:              Many other smaller successes followed until 2007. In this year the engine was with the team Scuderia La.Na. With them he gave his final roar on the Brno circuit during the tests of the EGTS championship. The signs of so much effort are still clearly evident in the deep injury at the bottom of the oil pan. For the record, the car still won the championship with a new engine.

THE CAR

The Ferrari 360 is a sports car produced by the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari from 1999 until 2004. It was then replaced by the new model, the F430. The Ferrari 360 is divided into three models: Modena, Spider and Challenge Stradale. The 360 Modena is a sports berlinetta that mounts a rear-wheel drive gasoline engine. The “little girl” of Casa Ferrari took part in numerous sporting events with the Challenge version, lighter than the basic model but with the same engine. This new model marks a decisive turning point in Ferrari’s history, in fact it no longer has retractable front lights, which are replaced by “on sight” front lights using new lighting technologies. It no longer even presents the classic taut lines, such as its progenitor, the Ferrari F355. The engine is now the new 5- valve V8 per cylinder, with a 90° angle and a displacement of 3586 cm3. It delivers 400 horsepower at 8500 rpm. Thanks to the use of aluminum, it now weighs 28% less than the F355, despite being larger in size.

In 2000 Ferrari developed the 360 Challenge, making just over 300 units (not to be confused with the Road Challenge produced with 1274 units since 2003). It was meant for single-brand races and for various FIA championships. In 2001, a revisited version of the Challenge, capable of 415 horsepower, was born. In 2002, the 360 began competing in major official championships, such as the FIA GT and the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. The customer racing department, to participate, had designed 20 FIA-approved 360 Modenas that had a low body composed of carbon fiber, with a showy rear wing. The engine had been upgraded to 430 horsepower.

Thomas Kemenater once took a podium in the World Cup, on 24th January 1982 on the difficult Swiss track of Wengen. He finished third behind the home champion Pirmin Zurbriggen (his first victory in the World Cup) and the czechoslovak Ivan Pacak.

After retiring from alpine skiing, Kemenater has been dedicated to motoring since 1996, in the Touring competitions (Superstars Series, Ferrari Challenge).
